I'm Baaaaaccck!

Okay,  okay I know I’ve been slacking in the blog department….BUT I calculated and I’ve actually only been in the City about 10 days this month. Its been a brutal month full of travel.
A couple weeks ago I was honored to participate in the STYLE FOR HIRE workshop taught by Stacy London in New York City. Although I didn’t make the cut, I came back even more sure of my desire and technique as a stylist. I learned the science and art of being a stylists. How to work better with my clients to ensure their clothes fit their budget, body type, coloring, and lifestyle. Stacy London is a true inspiration for any inspiring stylist.

More news….I will be re-branding my business aspect of being a stylist. I have started working with a graphic designer on a new logo and website. My calendar is filling up with events and client meetings with the hopes of making this a full time position for myself!
On another NOTE: All appointments booked between now and June 1st will be receiving a $50 discount for a Three-Hour Closet Analysis (Priced at $150 now only $100).

Hello New York

Hello All, I made it to New York today. I am in town this weekend for Stacy London's Style for Hire Workshop. I am very excited for the workshop, but really missing my husband and little girl.

I'm not sure how I ever lived here. This trip is really making me realize that D.C. is truly my home. One thing you have to love about NYC is the fashion! Women have such confidence in what they wear, its inspiring.

I can't wait to share with everyone all that I learn this weekend.

Thursday's Thrift Treasures

You might have noticed my dissapperance last week, with my lack of blog posts. My daughter and I headed out west to visit my grandparents in Southern Missouri.

Remember the Beverly HIllbilly's? Remember where they hit the oil? You know before they became rich? Well we were visiting about 15 miles down the road. The quite quant and always full of gossip El Dorado Springs, Missouri.

About four days in to the trip I began to get very antsy. I need to shop. And I needed to do it now. My Nana explained there were two stores "downtown" on Main Street that I might like. Both stores were consignment and had a mix of new and old things. Foundation 81 was on the south side of main street and was my favorite of the two. After entering I even found my old preschool teacher behind the counter, she was the owner. After glancing around I found a coffee bar in the back and a jewelry wall not far from it. My two favorite things! Jewerly and Coffee!

Here are some of my finds:

I love the different metallics and the chain woven with ribbon

I loved silver and gold mixed together. I'm thinking of attempting this as a DIY
I am a very avid thrift and vintage shopper. I basically do it every week and have got quite the collection going on. Starting by May 1(hopefully sooner)  I will be selling some of my pieces on the blog. I just don't have the room any more, but I can't stop buying them!

Beach Fashion Reading

So with Spring Break here for some and around the corner for others (ME!) most of us will be lounging on a beach somewhere soaking sun (don't forget the SPF) with our nose in the latest fashion magazine. Looking for some good books to put on your Nook or Kindel? Here are some of my favorite fashion inspired books:

Written by style icon and goddess Nina Garcia, this book is packed with information style basics, what sets a stylish woman apart from the rest, developing your own style, and the typical do's and don'ts of fashion.

Probably the most fashionable momma I in hollywood, Victoria Beckham knows her stuff. With detail chapters on every article of clothing you can think of, this conversational book covers everything from beauty to what type of jeans look right on your body. This is a book you can't put down and will be coming back to time and time again.

Another Nina Garcia book, perhaps I'm obsessed or perhaps she genious. In her second book, Nina, breaks down the top 100 items every woman needs in her closet. Looking to build a lasting wardrobe? Then this book is a must read!

Clinton Kelly and Stacy London are the Einstiens of looking good in clothes. This detailed book goes over each and every body type for both a man and a woman and what would look best for any occassion.

Being a Lady

"Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, then you aren't."
Margaret Thatcher

What most find out in the first five minutes of meeting me is how "Southern" I was raised. No, not the accent (at least anymore), more my old fashion ways. I was raised to be strong, powerful, love God and my family, always smile, never leave the house with out make up, to stand by your man, to always sit up straight, to be a lady.

In today's society people often think being a lady is "dumbing" down a woman, or to give in to old fashion traditions. I on the other hand completely disagree. A lady doesn't have to argue her way to the top, simply a smile will do. A lady doesn't do whatever her husband wants to do, instead she simply convinces  him in to think her original idea was his, just to get what she wants. A lady doesn't leave the house with out make up because she prides herself on looking her best. A lady sits up straight because she's proud to be a woman. A lady embodies class and elegance.
(I love to show off my "lady" in floral, and I'm dying over these driving gloves from TopShop)

I admire the lovely ladies in my life, all which are strong, amazing women making an impact on the world. What makes a you a lady?

5 Ways to Make Monday a Funday

Well its the end of a Monday, most of you are either sitting in front of the TV watching the Bachelor or watching the re-run of Gossip Girl (errrr I hate reruns!). Either way, it's only Monday, so I thought I would put together some fun styling tips to try to spice up your style this week, perk you up, and help everyone look forward to the weekend! Only FOUR more days y'all!

(1) Put on a basic pair of jeans and a tee shirt, accessorized with the biggest and boldest accessories you own.
(2) Its supposed to rain tomorrow? Ditch your standard umbrella for a kid’s umbrella – they come in fun prints and colors and are the perfect size for one person. Even better, they’re cheaper than normal ones.

(3) Invest in some really amazing lingerie. Even if you’re the only one who’s going to see it. Even if you think it’s a waste of money. On days when you’re just wearing sweats, cute lingerie can turn your whole mood around.

(4) Go shopping for cute gym clothes to workout in. Then put them on and go exercise! It’s the ultimate way to boost your mood.

(5) On a rainy day, ditch your heels in favor of brightly colored rain boots. Remember how your mom use to tell you to NOT jump in the puddles? News flash! Mama's not here. Go out and stomp in those bad boys!

Coming to DC....

I was so excited to hear that Current Boutique (currently located in Old Town Alexandria & Arlington) will also be coming to DC! The wonderful Logan Circle Neighborhood will also be adding  Current Boutique to its list of places to shop!

What I have noticed while shopping at Current was the enormous amount of High End Consignment available. Extremely organized by style, size, and categories it makes shopping a breeze. I love the idea that consignment is taking over. Style doesn't have to break the bank!

Thrifting Thursday Finds

Because I am traveling today (alone with my 19-month old - Lord help me) I thought it only appropriate to show you that Thrifting isn't just for grown ups.

I have found some amazing pieces for my daughter! I refuse to spend thousands of dollars on clothes for her when lets be honest, they are just going to get covered in drool, food, poo (Hmmm TMI?), and lord knows what else. Since before she was born I have bought her adorable dresses (Ralph Lauren), and jeans  (Baby GAP and Baby Guess) from thrift stores. I developed my love for thrifting from my mom and Nana and I hope I spread the same love of it to her.

Here is an ADORABLE vintage 80's dress I found for her. Navy blue accented with little apples reminded me of something my mom would have put me in! I loved it!

So if any of you ladies have kids or nieces and nephews and looking for
 some one-of-a-kind pieces try thrifting!

(Sorry the pics from far away - couldn't get her to sit still!)

Antsy for My Maxi

I love Maxi Dresses. I could basically live in them

And with the weather being so beautiful today I'm getting pretty anxious to wear my Maxi dresses.

Easy slip on clogs, cool accessories, a floral maxi dress, and until the weather gets a warmer a light blazer, all mixed with light shades of pink for the face, are making me seriously excited for warmer weather.

Happy Anniversary to Me

Three years ago today was one of the best days of my life. At 5 pm I walked down the aisle in my Nicole Miller strapless sheath dress in front of 36 people to get married to my amazing husband on the top of a cliff in Puerto Rico.

In the spirit of still being in love with my man here is a picture of us and our family on our wedding day. NOTE: Hated my make up that day, but I loved my dress.

I loved how casual our wedding was. We didn't want anything huge, just a fun party!
